official launch of the Bristol Pilot Cutter 'Mischief', 24th Nov 2007
21 Nov 2007
Join us for the official launch of the Bristol Pilot Cutter, Mischief on the 24th November 2007 at 14.00, followed by a film of Major H W (Bill)
Tilman's life
It is said that there hasn't been a Bristol Pilot Cutter built in the
City of Bristol for over 100 years, so the launch of Mischief, a 45ft
replica of Major H W (Bill) Tilman's famous Pilot Cutter on 24th
November 2007 will be an historic occasion not to be missed.
Mischief's will be launched at the Underfall Yard in the Cumberland
Basin, accompanied by Scottish Pipers and Cornish pasties to send her
on her way North to Scotland in 2008.
Mischief was one of three Pilot Cutters owned by the sea-fairing
mountaineer, Bill Tilman, who was one of the great explorers of the
20th Century. Towards the end of his career, Tilman travelled over
110,000 miles aboard Mischief, exploring Patagonia, Greenland and
going south to the Crozet Islands.
Mischief will be based in the Scottish Hebrides by her new owners,
Richard and Julia Boissevain and will be skippered by Dougie Walker.
She will be available for charter to 6 to 8 guests from April 2008.
Charter guests will experience the wonders of the Scottish wilderness,
whale watching and hiking, combined with the very best in traditional
gaff sailing.
To celebrate Tilman's achievements and Mischief's launch there will be
a showing of John Mead's documentary of Tilman's life, including 26
years sailing Bristol Pilot Cutters, "No Pay - No Prospects – Not Much
Pleasure", at the Nova Scotia, after the launch (numbers limited).
We look forward to seeing you on the 24th November at 14.00.
