Re-creating “Mischief”

After an exhaustive search we came to the conclusion that no line drawings of “Mischief” exist. Nevertheless, during this search we made some very useful contacts, and came upon a wealth of photos of “Mischief”, some of which showed her hull and underwater shape.

In reconstructing the vessel, RB Boatbuilding used these images of “Mischief” as a starting point. With the help of yacht designer Ed Burnett, who has experience with Pilot Cutter design, and a very useful computer programme, we took the "family" resemblance of other Cardiff Pilot boats whose lines, ratios and coefficients exist, then using the hull photos, we arrived at a set of lines to build the replica of “Mischief”.

She is being built at the historic Underfall Boatyard, in Bristol.

“Mischief” was an important historic vessel, who was owned and sailed by one of Britain's most fascinating and prolific explorers.

Her new owners “Mischief Expeditions” plan to Charter her in the Western Isles of Scotland, giving people a chance to see this beautiful coastline, and experience the thrill of sailing on a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter.
